Official statistics refer to public information which is produced for the benet

of the society and is funded by the state budget under the official statistical

program. Official statistics are equally accessible to everyone and enable

the consumers to make the necessary decisions in their private or business

lives. The module aim is to introduce students to institutional, legal and

organizational aspects of official statistics in Rwanda and to methodological

bases of measurement in official statistics.

Topics that will be covered in this module include institutions and organ-

ization of statistical systems: European statistical system, official statistics

in Rwanda and other International institutions, Principles of official statistics

such as fundamental principles of official statistics, Code of practice of offi

cial statistics, Measurement in official statistics, domains of official statistics,

concepts, denitions and statistical standards, explore the national statist-

ical book, National strategy for development of statistics and calculation of

some key indicators in official statistics.
