This module reviews and examines the major components of the central dogma of molecular biology. It will  cover a detailed analysis of the biochemical mechanisms that control the maintenance, expression, and evolution of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes. The field overlaps with other areas of biology and chemistry, particularly genetics and biochemistry.

The aim of this module is to provide an introduction to biology at a molecular level. It will cover a range of topics including: genome structure, organisation and packaging; genome replication and repair; the process of gene expression through transcription, RNA processing and translation; protein sorting and modification; regulation of gene expression. The module will also introduce the basic laboratory techniques of molecular biology.

The module will be delivered through blended mode.
