The course aims at laying down a solid foundation for language structure with a view to developing students’ overall performance in English; especially developing students’ linguistic and communication skills, including listening, speaking, reading and writing, etc. Abilities in grammar, language functions, vocabulary building and cultural content activities are targeted for communicative purposes

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to

demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

i. Listen with comprehension to a recorded piece of informational a variety of topics in science and technology as well as texts of general interest;

ii. Speak comprehensibly

iii. Read with comprehension a variety of written authentic materials

iv. Write good paragraphs, short essays and short descriptions
