6.1 Brief description of aims and content

 This module is designed to provide an understanding of the purpose of property registers as well as the development and administration of land information systems.

 6.2 Learning Outcomes

 A. Knowledge and Understanding

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

i)       Different forms of cadastre;

ii)     Purpose of land adjudication and registration;

iii)    Methodology for developing a land information system; and

iv)    Different land registration systems used in the world and Rwanda.

B. Cognitive/Intellectual skills/Application of Knowledge

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to:

v)      Understand legal and institutional frameworks necessary for land information management.

vi)    Appreciate trends in land information management Cadastre 2038;

vii)   Develop a typical land information system; and

viii) Evaluate appropriate land registration systems.

C. Communication/ICT/Numeracy/Analytic Techniques/Practical Skills

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to:

ix)    Analyse land information needs of different users;

x)      Use simple RDBMs to develop land information systems; and

xi)    Link non-spatial and spatial land information.

D. General transferable skills

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to:

 xii)   Manage land information using modern and secure information systems.
