The Course of Human settlements addresses rapid urbanization in the developing world and contemporary urban transformations within the scope of sustainable development. It focuses on issues of housing including affordable housing crisis, informal settlements, homelessness and climate change. It also seeks to deepen the understanding of building and urban development in a context of development with scarce resources and pressing social and environmental constraints. Architecture, urbanism and spatial planning are the core disciplines of the program. 

 

Upon The Successful Completion Of This Program, You Will Have Acquired:

 

A. Thorough understanding of the dynamic and multifunctional aspects of the constructed environment through gaining skills in:

 

  1. Interventions reflecting context-responsive concepts of sustainable development and dealing with different levels of the constructed environment (from individual buildings to entire cities)

  2. Stimulating exchange and feedback between academic theory and day-to-day practice

  3. Cost control on all scale levels

  4. Sufficient knowledge and skills to participate in research on these topics

  5. Conducting critical analysis of approaches in architecture, construction, urbanism (including urban design) and spatial planning

  6. Planning, conducting and preparing technical and managerial reports on individual research programs.

  7. Creatively solving problems in design and development

  8. Sustainable urbanization

  9. Stakeholders in Human Settlements

 

B. Upon Completion Of This Course, The Students Shall:

 

  1. Be Familiar with Key Concepts and Current Theories within the Field of Global Housing and

  2. Sustainable Settlement Development.
